Safety Committee

January 21, 2010

The Lawrence County Safety Committee convened on Thursday, January 21, 2010 at 4 p.m. in the Second Floor Conference Room of the Lawrence County Administrative Center.

Members present were Bobby Clifton, John Sanders, Sandra Hyatt, and Bert Spearman. Also present was Ambulance Service Director Scott Storey, County Executive Paul Rosson and Budget Director Teresa Purcell.

The purpose of the meeting was to discuss issues pertaining to the ambulance service.

Mrs. Purcell presented a proposed policy on billing for ambulance service accounts. She asked the committee to consider forwarding this to the full county commission. She reviewed sections including bankruptcy, death, write-offs, returned mail, etc.

A motion was made by John Sanders, seconded by Bert Spearman to approve this policy and forward to the full county commission for consideration. Motion was approved.

Mrs. Purcell next informed the committee that the ambulance service had a 91.99% collection rate in November and a collection rate of 86.95% in December. The year-to-date collection rate is 86.26%. The year-to-date billing amount was $1,097,130.

She discussed some reasons for the increase in billing amounts and collection rates, including timely billing to auto insurance for traffic accidents, billing of secondary insurances, filing probate claims and Tenn Care claims.

Director Storey next discussed updates and changes which have been at the ambulance service, including new equipment and vehicles. He also discussed training and education of employees and gave other updates on the overall operation of the department.

Director Storey suggested that the fourth ambulance should be reinstated on a full-time basis and that the part-time pay rate be raised in order to recruit and retain more part time personnel.

Mrs. Purcell said the changes which have been implemented at the ambulance service should allow for the proposals to be implemented.

Due to the loss of a quorum, the committee was not able to take action. However, Mr. Clifton agreed for the committee to waive jurisdiction and will forward the matter to the full county commission for its January 26, 2010 meeting to consider implementing raises for the part-time staff.

January 5, 2010

The Lawrence County Board of Commissioners convened on Tuesday, January 5, 2010 for an Agenda Meeting for the January 26, 2010 Regular Session.

The meeting was called to order by County Executive Paul Rosson.

County Attorney Charlie Holt announced several resolutions for the upcoming meeting. These include:

3. Appointments to Ag. Extension Committee

4. Appointments to Economic Development Board

5. Appointments to Board of Equalization

6. Approval of County Road List

Commissioner Ronnie Benefield recommended a resolution which would provide for demolition and removal of a dilapidated structure behind the Lawrence County Health Department.
