The Lawrence County Budget Committee convened on Thursday, March 4, 2010 in the Second Floor Conference Room of the Lawrence County Administrative Center.

Members present were County Executive Paul Rosson, Jerry Putman, Jerry Dryden, and Anne Brown.

The purpose of the meeting was to consider the lease/purchase of equipment for the Lawrence County Highway Department.

Mr. Rosson explained that the Highway Committee had referred to the Budget Committee a proposal for a lease/purchase of a reclaimer machine.  Lawrence County has previously been borrowing one of these machines from Giles County. Mr. Brown has requested a lease/purchase of a machine to be paid over a 5 year period, at approximately $66,000 per year.

Highway Chairman Bobby Clifton suggested taking two miles of paving from the department budget and paying for the machine instead of financing it.

The committee further discussed the use of the machine.

A motion was made by Jerry Putman, seconded by Anne Brown to approve and refer the lease/purchase of the equipment to the full county commission. The motion was approved with all ayes.

Mr. Rosson announced that all departments have been asked to submit their budget requests for 2010-2011 by April 1st. He said work sessions on the 2010-2011 budget will commence shortly thereafter.

Mr. Clifton made additional comments regarding road work in his district.
