LAWRENCE COUNTY COMMISSION

September 7, 2006 – Special Session

5:00 p.m.

 

Meeting was called to order and roll call taken by Chuck Kizer, County Clerk.

All members were present:

Delano Benefield, Ronald  Benefield, Ray Brazier, Anne Brown, Bobby Clifton, Chuck Doerflinger, Jerry Dryden, Dennis Gillespie, Richard Hill, Sandra Hyatt, Chris Jackson, Alan Keener, Mark Niedergeses, Jerry Putman, Charles Robertson, John Sanders, Jr., Joe Wray

and Wayne Yocom.

Invocation given by Chuck Doerflinger. Pledge led by Ray Brazier.

 

Public Comments –

Reggie Coleman – requested additional staffing for New Prospect School

Karen Woodall – addressed commission regarding her nomination to budget committee

Cromer Smotherman – extended invitation to all elected officials from the Senior Citizens of Lawrence County to be entertained Sept. 12th

Teresa Purcell, L.C. Budget Director – read her resignation (to be effective Sept. 8, 2006) to the commission and citizens attending meeting

Ricky Mabry, LCEA President – requested commission to consider additional hours added to teachers workday in upcoming budget

 

Election Of Chair Of The Lawrence County Legislative Body

Paul Rosson nominated by Alan Keener; seconded by John Sanders, Jr.

Jerry Dryden nominated by Bobby Clifton; seconded by Ray Brazier.

Chuck Doerflinger made motion that nominations cease; seconded by Ronnie Benefield.

Roll call vote taken.  Voting for Jerry Dryden (13): Delano Benefield, Ronald Benefield,  Ray Brazier, Bobby Clifton, Chuck Doerflinger, Jerry Dryden, Dennis Gillespie, Richard Hill, Sandra Hyatt, Mark Niedergeses, Charles Robertson and Joe Wray. Voting for Paul Rosson (5): Anne Brown, Chris Jackson, Alan Keener, Jerry Putman and John Sanders, Jr.

 

Election Of Chair Pro Tem Of The Lawrence County Legislative Body

Wayne Yocom nominated by Ronald Benefield; seconded by Chuck Doerflinger.

Delano Benefield made motion that nominations cease; seconded by Mark Niedergeses.

Wayne Yocom elected by unanimous voice vote.

PASSED by unanimous roll call vote.

 

RESOLUTION#2006090702         Resolution to approve appointments to the Budget Committee  sponsor: Paul Rosson

RESOLUTION#2006090703         Resolution to approve Lawrence County entering into agreement with the TCSA Property and Casualty Fund

                                                            PASSED by unanimous roll call vote.

 

Paul Rosson recognized by chair and addressed the commission.

 

Jerry Dryden, Chair, addressed commission and made Ronald Benefield and Wayne Yocom Committee Consultants for his board and committee appointment choices.

 

Ronald Benefield made motion to adjourn; seconded by Wayne Yocom.  Approved by unanimous voice vote.
